How to keep costs down with a new kitchen

Kitchen manufacturers separate doors into different price groups depending on the finish of the door, the type of door finish dictates the overall cost of the kitchen, for example a glass or ceramic fronted door will be significantly dearer than a standard matt finish door. If you choose a door from a lower price group you still have the same manufacturing quality for units, internal mechanisms, drawers and pull-outs will be identical but the overall price of the kitchen will be much lower.

A straightforward way to keep the cost down when designing your new kitchen is to not incorporate too many mechanisms into the design, drawer units for example will cost treble or more than a standard shelved cupboard will cost, a le-mans corner unit is an excellent corner space solution for a kitchen but do you really need more than one ?  Pull-out units, these mechanisms are useful, practical items but do add significantly to the cost of the kitchen, if you keep them to a minimum this will help with the overall cost.

When choosing appliances, go for brands with good reputations, you’ll pay more but on the flip side cheap appliances don’t always last and are more likely to need replacing sooner. Ovens for example can be expensive but the cost can be kept down by buying the standard models, the more functions an oven has the dearer it is, will you really use all the additional functions modern ovens offer?

The most popular choice of worktop for us is quartz, it’s an excellent choice as a worktop, super durable, available in a huge variety of colours and it looks great. If your budget doesn’t stretch to quartz though most German kitchen manufacturers like Schuller make and supply their own good quality modern laminate worktops, these have the advantage of being roughly half the cost, can be perfectly matched colour wise to the units if needed and will be delivered with the kitchen units so no waiting for the template and installation process that quartz/stone worktops require.

Don’t cut corners when it comes to fitting your new kitchen, we recommend using experienced installers, preferably in German kitchens and to pay them the going rate, cutting costs on fitting as some do can often cost you more in the long run, if a kitchen is not fitted properly over time it will degrade and you could have expensive problems with it.
