Which Kitchen Splashback Suits You?

Kitchen splashbacks have developed over the last decade both in terms of material used and style. Tiles were once the most common material used for splashbacks and though they can look great they are not the most practical, take more time to fit and the grouting between the tiles often becoming discoloured over time with consistent use of the kitchen, also they don’t usually suit a modern looking German kitchen design.

Quartz or stone worktop material used as a splashback is a popular albeit more expensive option than say tiles or melamine. The advantage being the splashback will perfectly match the worktop style creating the same look for both. Just like the worktops the splashback will need templating and fitting at a later date, usually at the same time as the worktop is fitted.

Today there are some excellent splashback options both aesthetically and practically. Glass is nowadays a very popular choice of splashback material, it’s versatile, can be toughened, mirrored, polished or matt finished and made to any colour of your choosing. Glass is also low maintenance compared with say tiles, easier to wipe clean and  polish. Glass splashbacks will need to be templated first then installed at a later date once ready and cut to size.

Melamine splashbacks, laminated material in contrast to glass has a softer, more neutral look. A durable, easy to clean splashback material which also has the advantage of being a cost effective way to protect your kitchen walls. If you purchase your melamine splashback from your kitchen manufacturer it will arrive with your kitchen units as part of the same delivery already cut to size so no templating or waiting for installation.

One of our favourite modern options is the splashback rail system, functionally designed to house accessories/utensils with an excellent variety of choices. The splashback can be framed, LED backlit or feature strip lighting throughout. This modern type of splashback has the advantage of practicality; your kitchen utensils are to hand plus they look great and suit a modern looking German kitchen design.
